1. Eligibility
All prospective racers aged 7 to 21. You must be between 7 and 14 for Stock Division; between 9 and 18 for Super Stock Division and between 10 and 21 for Masters Division. Minimum ages must occur on or before July 31 and maximum ages can’t occur on or before July 31. Proof of age is required.
2. Registration and Rental
Register using the registration form on this website located in the “Getting Started” tab. Fill it out in the browser and email it to pikespeak@soapboxderby.org. Send a copy of your birth certificate and the registration fee of $45 to PPSBD, PO Box 2504, Monument, CO, 80132. If you bring in another racer, you get a reduced fee of $20. Racers have an option to rent a car from PPSBD for $50. For more information, contact our Race Director at pikespeak@soapboxderby.org

3. Order a car

4. Get a Sponsor
A complete kit plus wheels, weights, and shipping will cost approximately $1800 for a Stock or Super Stock and $2100 for Masters. You should line up one or more sponsors to help you pay the expenses. Sponsors are allowed to advertise on the car.
5. Build Your Car
You must build your own car with help from an adult—parent, friend, or mentor. It’s a joint effort between you and your assistant, but you must do most of the work yourself. The kits take can be assembled in a weekend. Follow the instructions exactly. Total weight of the car, wheels and driver for Stock is 200lbs, for Super Stock is 240lbs and for Masters is 255lbs.
6. Pre-Inspection and Practice Day
First Sunday in June.
The pre-inspection will take place at the top of the track in the Open Bible Pharmacy parking lot from 8am-Noon. Registration must be complete at this time. Racers will be practicing on the street where the race is held.
7. Final Inspection and Impound
Bring your completed car to the Holcim parking lot at the bottom of the track. Your car will be inspected for the last time before the race. After final checks of the car, it will be impounded over night.
8. Race Day!
Second Sunday in June.
The race will be held on Costilla Street between El Paso and Wasatch Streets—8am to finish. This will be a double elimination race. Each heat consists of two runs down the track against your opponent. After the first phase, the cars and drivers are brought back to the top of the hill to swap wheels and lanes and run the second phase. You must lose two heats, not phases, to be eliminated.
All racers receive a participation trophy and the top finishers receive place trophies. All participants are required to attend the awards ceremony immediately after the race and will receive a prize. The winning cars and drivers will be sent to Akron, Ohio and given a stipend to participate in derby week and the International Soap Box Derby.

For first-time drivers, we have club cars that you can re-build to fit your driver and use it to start racing. If you enjoy it, we can help you find sponsors to get your own car. You can rent a car from Pikes Peak Soap Box Derby for $50 plus race fee.
